11 સપ્ટેમ્બર, 1893ના રોજ સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદે શિકાગોમાં ઐતિહાસિક ભાષણ આપ્યું હતું. આજે પણ આપણે ભારતીયો આ ભાષણ પર ગર્વ અનુભવીએ છીએ. કહેવાય છે કે આ ભાષણે સમગ્ર વિશ્વની સામે ભારતની છબી બદલી નાખી હતી. વડાપ્રધાન મોદીએ પણ સ્વામી વિવેકાનંદના આ શાનદાર ભાષણને યાદ કર્યું હતું. તમે પણ જાણો વિવેકાનંદ જી એ તેમના ભાષણમાં શું કહ્યું હતું?
વિવેકાનંદ જી એ શું કહ્યું હતું?
1893 માં, શિકાગો, અમેરિકામાં વિશ્વ ધર્મ પરિષદમાં, વિવેકાનંદે ‘મારા અમેરિકન ભાઈઓ અને બહેનો’ કહીને તેમના ભાષણની શરૂઆત કરી. દરેકને શુભેચ્છા પાઠવતા તેમણે કહ્યું:
“હું વિશ્વની સૌથી જૂની સંત પરંપરા વતી તમારો આભાર માનું છું. હું તમામ ધર્મોની માતા વતી તમારો આભાર માનું છું અને તમામ જાતિ અને સંપ્રદાયના લાખો અને કરોડો હિન્દુઓ વતી તમારો આભાર વ્યક્ત કરું છું. હું આ વ્યક્ત કરનારાઓનો પણ આભાર માનું છું, જેમણે કહ્યું હતું કે પૂર્વના દેશોમાંથી વિશ્વમાં સહિષ્ણુતાનો વિચાર ફેલાયો છે. વિવેકાનંદજીએ કહ્યું હતું કે, “મને ગર્વ છે કે હું એવા ધર્મનો છું જેણે વિશ્વને સહિષ્ણુતા અને સાર્વત્રિક સ્વીકૃતિનો પાઠ શીખવ્યો.” અમે માત્ર સાર્વત્રિક સહિષ્ણુતામાં માનતા નથી, પરંતુ અમે વિશ્વના તમામ ધર્મ સાચા તરીકે સ્વીકારીએ છીએ. મને ગર્વ છે કે હું એક એવા દેશનો છું જેણે તમામ દેશોના સતાવાયેલા લોકોને આશ્રય આપ્યો છે. મને ગર્વ છે કે અમે અમારા હૃદયમાં ઇઝરાયલની તે પવિત્ર યાદોને સાચવી રાખી છે, જેમાં તેમના ધાર્મિક સ્થાનોને રોમન આક્રમણકારોએ નષ્ટ કર્યા હતા. પછી તેણે દક્ષિણ ભારતમાં આશરો લીધો.
‘रुचिनां वैचित्र्यादृजुकुटिलनानापथजुषाम… नृणामेको गम्यस्त्वमसि पयसामर्णव इव…’
આ શ્લોકનો પાઠ કરતા ની સાથે, વિવેકાનંદ જી એ કહ્યું હતું :
જેમ જુદા જુદા સ્ત્રોતોમાંથી નીકળતી જુદી જુદી નદીઓ અંતે સમુદ્રમાં ભળી જાય છે, તેવી જ રીતે માણસ પોતાની ઈચ્છા પ્રમાણે જુદા જુદા માર્ગો પસંદ કરે છે, જે ભલે સીધા કે વાંકાચૂકા દેખાય, પણ બધા ઈશ્વર તરફ લઈ જાય છે, ચાલો જઈએ. “સાંપ્રદાયિકતા, કટ્ટરતા અને તેમના ભયંકર વંશજો, કટ્ટરવાદ, લાંબા સમયથી પૃથ્વીને પોતાની પકડમાં રાખે છે.”“તેઓએ પૃથ્વીને હિંસાથી ભરી દીધી છે. આ ધરતી કેટલી વાર લોહીથી લાલ થઈ ગઈ છે, કેટલી સંસ્કૃતિઓનો નાશ થયો છે અને કોણ જાણે કેટલા દેશો નાશ પામ્યા છે. જો આ ભયંકર રાક્ષસો ન હોત, તો આજે માનવ સમાજ ઘણો આગળ વધ્યો હોત, પરંતુ હવે તેમનો સમય સમાપ્ત થઈ ગયો છે.
તેમના ભાષણના અંતિમ ભાગમાં, તેમણે આશા વ્યક્ત કરી કે, “આ કોન્ફરન્સનો અવાજ તમામ કટ્ટરપંથીઓ, તમામ પ્રકારની વેદનાઓ, પછી ભલે તલવારથી કે કલમથી હોય, અને માણસોમાંની બધી અશુભતાનો નાશ કરશે. પછી તે તલવારથી હોય કે કલમથી.
