Gandhinagar, July 05, 2022: Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited the Meta stall at the marquee Digital India Week event (DIW) organized by the Government of India, at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. At the stall, Meta displayed how AR and VR technologies can power the future across key sectors like skilling, education and healthcare and are building blocks of the immersive experiences that will shape the contours of the metaverse in the future.
Meta has been a part of India’s digital transformation journey since 2006. Over the years, the company has invested in shaping the digital ecosystem of the country by enabling small businesses and creators alike. The particularly inspiring part of the Meta story, as seen in the booth, includes Meta’s proven initiatives around digital governance and citizen services, like Meta’s MyGov Corona Helpdesk chatbot on WhatsApp, in partnership with the Government, which helped over 80 million people access authentic Covid-related information and resources, evolving to become a one stop solution for all vaccination related resources, including enablement of vaccination certificate downloads. MyGov Helpdesk has now further expanded to include ‘Digilocker’ services, providing citizens with quick access to important documents like their Driver’s License, etc
Meta has been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to shaping the future of digital technologies. In keeping with the Prime Minister and the Government’s vision of a Digital India, the DIW event provides an exciting occasion for Meta to showcase the cutting-edge work around AR/VR and the Metaverse that will unlock new opportunities for people, communities, creators and businesses, as well as unleash expression built around both work and fun. This also underlines the importance of Meta’s initiative together with CBSE, where 10mn students and 1mn teachers will be trained on new technologies like AR, VR and XR to make them future ready for the metaverse.
The Spark AR showcase, the largest mobile AR platform in the world, adds another exciting dimension to the Meta stall. Launched in 2017, more than 700 Million people use AR across Meta’s apps every month. The effects shown in the Meta booth range from gaming to immersive World AR effects.
