Ahmedabad, 15 September: Weaving is a therapeutic and calming activity something we all need once in a while. NanditaMunshaw, Chairperson of FICCI Flo Ahmedabad Chapterand committee members conducted a workshop today themed ‘Deciphering Weaving,’ in which members sought to learn about weaving and weave on the DIY weaving kits with Vinita Nahar, Founder of ‘Active Hands.’

‘Active Hands’ is an initiative founded by VineetaNahar in 2015 to provide craft learning opportunities through hands-on, interactive DIY kits, demonstration, training, and exposure programs. With over 20 years of experience ranging from textile, apparel to crafting a training, backed with intense research on crafts, each kit has been thoughtfully designed.

‘FLO TEXTILE Initiative has consciously designed the events under it intending to understand the origin and evolution of fabrics and weaves over the years. As a layman, we cannot even begin to imagine the time and creativity invested in the technique of producing some wonderful weaves. It is therefore difficult to gauge the true worth of each piece. We take this opportunity to educate ourselves on the process and sensitize our approach towards the artisan. Members tried fingers at this craft so that we can extend a hand to these craftsmen in future’, said Shilpa Patel, Textile Initiative Head, FICCI FLO Ahmedabad chapter.

‘Deciphering Weaving’ workshop not only sensitized Flo members to the time taken to weave a small piece but also the tireless efforts put by our handloom weavers and helped members to value their work. By understanding a weave one can form an instant connection and genuine appreciation for the community that masters it. Active Hands has developed lap-size handcrafted wooden looms on which a wide range of weaves can be explored using a variety of yarns. The process of up and down motion is not only therapeutic and calming but also develops patience, concentration, creative thinking, hand skills, and craft appreciation.

The demonstrations offered by Active Hands on the workshop were very informative and encouraged the participants to experience the few aspects of weaving that were intriguing and enjoyable for all ages. Together, let’s demystify weaves to create support for our weavers.
